Volleyball team earns 10th conference win

The volleyball team earned its 10th conference win on September 28, beating Kalamazoo Valley Community College in straight sets: 28-26, 25-10 and 25-13.

With the win, the Raiders — ranked 4th in the NJCAA Division II — improve to 13-1 overall and remain first in in the MCCAA West.

Kendra DeJonge and Hannah Stearns led the Raiders with 10 kills each, while Ally German and Kayla Salyer finished with five each. Peyton Helsen finished with 16 digs. Lauren Helsen finished with 17 assists. Haley Peters led in service aces with two.

GRCC hosts the Raider Challenge this weekend, with the Raiders taking on Macomb Community and Schoolcraft Community colleges on September 30 and Alpena Community and Oakland Community colleges on October 1.

Macomb enters the tournament at 6-16 overall while 0-3 in Eastern Conference play.  Schoolcraft is also winless in MCCAA play with a 0-3 conference record and 2-7 overall.  Alpena is winless thus far in 2017, having played six matches total and four in the East.

Oakland is the top team in the MCCAA East at 6-0 with a 13-4 overall record.
