JR Automation expansion to create 100 new high-tech jobs in Holland

HOLLAND, MI — One hundred new jobs will be added in the city of Holland with a $4 million expansion at JR Automation.

… Emily Staley, vice president of marketing and communications at Lakeshore Advantage, said the Michigan New Jobs Training Program offered through Grand Rapids Community College is designed to provide funding for training employees hired into “new” jobs paying at least 175 percent of minimum wage, $16.18 per hour.

Magician June Horowitz, 104, blazed a trail for women

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Before she became one of magic’s most well-known and beloved magicians, June Horowitz couldn’t get into conventions.

… But she was also a math teacher at Ottawa Hills High School, Grand Rapids Junior College (now Grand Rapids Community College) and Marywood Academy, according to a biography from the American Museum of Magic.

In the past year, Dini and Mansura have been surprised how their house transformed from just a plot of land to the beautiful home it is today. Their home was built in partnership with students from Grand Rapids Community College’s M-TEC Program. Since 2005, GRCC students have helped Habitat Kent build 33 homes. GRCC President Bill Pink attended the home dedication and handed Dini the keys to their new home.
